Mr. Opdahl stated that there have been e-mails going back and forth concerning the concession stand and there will be a meeting in Hartford this month to review the concession stand. He said that if this Board were to vote in a negative fashion on the concession stand it would mean that he could not carry it forward to get approval. Furthermore, it would eliminate the revenue source for this project. The revenue is about 15% right now. He said the original building was torn down to make room for the McMahon Global Studies Project, otherwise there would be no revenue source at all. He said that for the Board to take a negative position on this would be foolish and would not be to their advantage. Ms. Bain addressed the Board with regard to the Brien McMahon Ad Hoc Committee’s stance on the concession stand. She said that at this time they are recommending that approval go forth. Mr. Opdahl stated that a budget of $270,000.00 has been assigned to this project and has been approved by the Facilities Commission.
Mayor Knopp stated that the City of Norwalk is putting up for sale a lot on the north side of the Brien McMahon property. He said the proceeds from the sale would be used to build the concession stand. He said that the City does not have the appraisal for the property yet but it will be somewhere between $120,000.00 and $170,000.00.
** MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
