Olivia Rosado, a Brookside fifth grader, attended the People to People Leadership Program in Washington D.C. over the April vacation where she participated in the World Leadership Forum. People to People offers leadership development programs in Washington, D.C. and at top colleges across the United States. Students in grades 5-12 come from all over the world to hone their leadership skills, prepare for college, and explore future careers through unique access to extraordinary people, places, and insights. The program allows participants to make friends with young leaders from all over the world while discovering the rich history around every corner in Washington, D.C. The students examine a variety of leaders from America’s past to understand how they influenced others—and also to hear from some of today’s leaders, including a member of the U.S. Congress.
Brien McMahon won First Place in the website category in the State History Day contest held in Hartford last Saturday. First place was awarded to Neil Modi, Rick Buellesbach, and Michael Roca -- qualifying them for the National History Day competition in Maryland that will be held June 14-18. Brien McMahon had five entries including Eddie Kozinski (Individual Exhibit); Gina Caputo, Maria Caputo, and Bijal Shah (Group Exhibit); Anthony Amato (Individual Documentary); Whitney Packer, Eric Miller, & Lauren Tortorici; Arianna Bailey, Hana Glasberg, & Marisa Marotta (Group Documentaries); and Neil Modi, Rick Buellesbach, & Michael Roca (Website). History Day in Connecticut is part of the National History Day program. This annual competition engages students in grades 6-12 in the process of researching and interpreting a historical topic of their choice related to an annual theme. Working individually or in small groups, students are encouraged to find primary and secondary sources on their subject through research in libraries and museums, interviews, and visits to historic sites.
