Board of Education Policy Committee Minutes Draft

I. Call to Order: 7:15

II. Approval of Minutes of Dec 9th, Jan 15th and Feb 25th: Approved

III. Discussion of policies:

A. Policy #5144 Discipline/Punishment: There have been changes in the law regarding restraint of students. The committee continued to review the draft policy and regulation from Sullivan Schoen and made some changes in wording. The NPS current regulation will be included at the beginning of the proposed regulation. The Special Education Department will review the policy and regulation for procedures to implement and parent notification.

B. Policy #0521 Equal Opportunity was reviewed. The main difference was to update the language to include “civil union.”

C. Policy #6121 Instruction-Non Discrimination: The same language from #0521 will be used in #6121. The word employees will be striken in (a) since the policy pertains to instruction. It will be reviewed by the attorney for recommendations. Mr. Dadonna has developed procedures pertaining to 504 plans.

IV. Schedule for future policy review: The next meeting will be April 29th
