Nathan Hale Middle School News Amy Kress, Nathan Hale Social Studies teacher, has been nominated by her students for the prestigious John H. Stedman Award. In addition to the application, five students have written a one page narrative each to support her for the award. This award is given annually by the Connecticut Council for Social Studies. Final decisions will be made in May. The John H. Stedman Passion for the Social Studies Teaching Award is an annual award given by the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies (CCSS) in honor of the late John H. Stedman, a long-time member of CCSS, a distinguished teacher, and an all around great human-being. Nominations are for social studies teachers, grades 6-12; nominations may come from individual students or groups of students; students must fill out a nomination form and include a one-page letter explaining why they believe their social studies teacher is deserving of the John Stedman Award. The Award will be determined based solely on letters from students.

Norwalk High School News Chelsea Garcia, a Norwalk High student has been selected to attend the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University this summer. Students participate in a variety of experiences. Students participate in interactive career simulations. This enables students to experience a day-in-the-life of a future career. While at the NSLC, students gain professional experience. Students will meet with and learn from national and world leaders, surgeons and scientists, artists and architects, business leaders, lawyers and more. Exclusive tours and behind-the-scenes visits add richness to the experience. In addition, students experience life on a college campus as they make friends with a diverse group of students who share their interests. At the heart of the NSLC is a comprehensive leadership program designed to develop the leadership potential within each of our students. Students participate in a series of interactive workshops led by nationally renowned facilitators. Since 1989, tens of thousands of outstanding high school students from across the United States and more than 40 countries have attended the National Student Leadership Conference.

The Norwalk High School FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Club participated in the Connecticut FBLA Conference at the Waterbury Inn on Monday March 30. Among the 40 CT Schools who participated in the state wide event, Norwalk High School prevailed and received the following awards: 3rd Place Business Ethics Team Event: Michael Lepoutre(11th), Robert Romano (11th)and Greg Berger (11th) 4th Place Entrepreneurship Team Event: Ravi Patel (11th) and Ryan Tolimch (11th) 4th Place Global Business: Larry McGonigle (10th) The club as a whole received a Bronze Chapter Recognition for the activities in which they participated in during the course of the entire school year.

Fifteen NHS club members competed in a variety of business related topics that challenged them on various academic levels. These students prepared themselves during weekly club meetings and community activities. The club has a dual purpose -- to participate in various community service events and to provide awareness to the students about the duties and obligations that are required in the business world. Only 8 out of the 40 schools were given this recognition at the competition. NHS received a plaque that is displayed in the Business Department.

The Norwalk High School Music Department in conjunction with the Fathers Club will present a modern classic; Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" as this year's spring musical production. It will be performed on May 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 8:00 p.m. in the Norwalk High School auditorium. There will be a special matinee performance on Sunday May 3 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday March 16.
