Board of Education Policy Committee Meeting Minutes Draft

February 25, 2009

Attendees: Policy Committee members:J. Bishop-Pullan, S. Hamilton, M. Rivas,

I. Call to Order: 7:21

II. Approval of Minutes of Jan 15th: Tabled

III. Discussion of policies:

A. Proposed policy on Norwalk Public Schools contracts: The committee reviewed the current draft language ad made some clarifying wording changes. The policy will go on the March 3rd BOE agenda for adoption.

B. Policy #5144 Discipline/Punishment: There has been changes in the law regarding restraint of students. The committee continued to review the draft Sullivan Schoen. The draft was shared with the Principals for input.

The committee determined that the Director of Pupil Personnel Services attend the next meeting.

C. Policy #0521 Equal Opportunity was reviewed.

D. Review “504 plan-policy and procedure: It was determined that Policy #6121 contains language pertaining to the use of 504 plans. It will be reviewed by the attorney for recommendations for updates. Mr. Dadonna is working on the procedures pertaining to 504 plans.

IV. Schedule for future policy review: The next meeting will be March 26th
