Board of Education Policy Committee Meeting Minutes draft

I. Call to Order: 7:15

II. Approval of Minutes of December 9th: Tabled

III. Discussion of policies:

A. Proposed policy on Norwalk Public Schools contracts: The committee reviewed language proposed by our attorney. The committee recommended changes and will present the draft to the Board at the Feb 3 meeting.

B. Possible policy on delinquent payments for school lunches: The committee did some research with CABE, our attorneys and other districts. There are no sample Board policies to address this issue it is procedural. There were any questions from the committee regarding the procedures for collection of money from students and families, how it is accounted for and how parents know the balances. Ideas were discussed for possible procedural changes. There will be a meeting with Mr. Cook, and George Giannitti to discuss possible procedural changes.

C. Policy #5144 Discipline/Punishment: There has been changes in the law regarding restraint of students. The committee reviewed drafts from CABE and Sullivan Schoen. The draft from Sullivan Schoen will be shared with the Special Ed Dept and the Principals for input.

D. Policy #4115.3 Athletic Coaches: The language is updated to reflect the arbitration settlement approved by the Board. It will go to the Board on Jan. 20.

IV. Schedule for future policy review: The meeting on Jan 29th is cancelled and will be rescheduled to the first week in Feb.
