ABOUT EMPLOYMENT IN THE NORWALK PUBLIC SCHOOLS

 

There are certified (teachers and administrators) and non-certified (aides, secretaries, custodians, maintenance workers, executive support personnel, nurses, technicians, security guards) positions. All positions are posted on our website norwalkpublicschools.org . Certified positions are also posted on the state department of education website ctreap.net

 

To apply for a position you must complete a pre-employment application online. Submit the completed application, resume, letters of reference (3), copies of transcripts and proof of certification (if required) along with your cover letter. These items should be scanned and attached to your application. You may indicate interest in specific positions as they are posted.

Information about teacher certification and the application form are available at www.state.ct.us/sde Once your application is in process you can track it by calling 860-713-6969. To learn more about colleges and universities that offer teacher certification coursework go to www.ctdhe.org

 

All Norwalk Public Schools employees must submit to a thorough criminal background check.

 

SUBSTITUTE TEACHING

 

How to apply: Access the substitute application online. Submit along with college transcripts that show a bachelor's degree or higher. You will be required to submit three letters of recommendation, two forms of identification (bring original documents: driver's license and either a social security card or birth certificate) and tax forms.

 

Substitutes are encouraged to enroll in the Substitute Training course offered through Adult Education.

 

How to get assigned:

 

You will be enrolled in SubFinder, our computerized system. This allows you to limit the school, grade, and subject you would like to teach. You may accept offered job or shop for jobs. Going on vacation? You may deactivate your service for a period of time.

 

How to get paid:

 

At the end of each day of substituting, contact the school secretary to be sure that a pay voucher is completed. The daily rate is $90 (1-20 days), $100 (21-40 consecutivedays) $180 (41 consecutive days and over). As a token of our appreciation, you will receive a bonus day's pay after you have served 20 days and another bonus day's pay after you have served 40 days in any position. (You must notify Human Resources in writing when you qualify for a bonus)  

ABOUT NON-CERTIFIED POSITIONS

 

The Norwalk Public Schools values the staff that supports the work of teachers in the classroom. Applications for all positions are available online.

 

Special requirements:

 

Instructional aides: Preference will be given to aides who have earned college degrees or pass the Para-Pro test (www.ets.org/parapro)

 

Custodians: All candidates must achieve a passing score on the custodial test (Test dates are advertised in local newspapers.)

 

Spanish/English fluency is an asset for all positions.

ABOUT THE HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE

The Human Resources Office provides information and resources for Certified and Non-Certified Staff of the Norwalk Public Schools. The staff members will assist you in the following areas.

 

Debbie: (854-4018) Teacher hiring, teacher certification, substitute management, internships, student teacher placements and mentor teacher assignments, nurses

Amy:   (854-4019) Clerical, custodial, food services, security, teacher aide, and other non-certified staff, workers' compensation claims, unemployment

Jo-Ann:   (854-4016) Professional job postings, scheduling, coaching certification, correspondence, committees, advertising and special projects

Darlene:   (854-4055) Candidate information, application management, in-service records, CEU issuance, and fingerprinting.
