In November of 2003, the City of Norwalk
retained Gilbane Building Company to fulfill the role of Program
Manager to manage the implementation of various physical facility
projects on behalf of the Norwalk Facilities Construction Commission
(NFCC). This program includes buildings operated by the Norwalk
Public Schools. The NFCC now serves as the city-wide School
Building Committee.
The
City has authorized about $70M to be spent on future improvements
to the schools.
In
order to assess priorities, tours were conducted of each school
and the school principals were interviewed to gain input as to how
their school buildings are meeting the educational program needs
of their students as well as evaluate mandatory code and statutory
deficiencies.
